The Niger State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has officially sworn in its state leaders, with Hon. Muhammad Awwal Goma appointed as the party’s new leader for the next four years. The ceremony was conducted under the supervision of Barrister Fati Abdullahi Enegi, in the presence of representatives from IPAC, INEC, security agencies, and other relevant authorities.
In his remarks, Hon. Danladi Umar Abdulhamid, Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Foreign Affairs, explained that due to the security situation in Niger State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) allowed for simultaneous party leadership elections at the constituency, local government, and state levels. He commended the NNPP in Niger State for following this system during the leadership elections.
While the NNPP remains a political opposition in Niger State, Abdulhamid emphasized that the party maintains a cooperative stance toward the Umaru Bago administration, ready to offer advice where necessary. He also noted that while government development projects are commendable, priority should be given to practical initiatives such as improving and widening roads in Minna, rather than constructing large overpasses that do not address traffic needs.
Hon. Bashir Abacha, former Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government Area and NNPP National Liaison Officer, urged citizens to vote based on merit rather than money, stating, “The time for money politics is over. Whoever gives you money, answer your money and vote with merit.”
Abacha highlighted the NNPP’s commitment to creating systems that uplift the poor, citing the Kano State government as a model for policies that prioritize citizens’ welfare. He called on the newly sworn-in leaders to be courageous in building the party, describing their roles as a trust to be upheld with ideology and patriotism.
Former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Isyaku Ali Danja, who represented the NNPP at the national level during the oath-taking, reaffirmed the party’s identity and ideology. He praised Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s national leader, for his dedication to patriotism, empowerment of the poor, and inclusive governance. Danja cited the NNPP’s previous electoral successes in Kano State as evidence of the party’s effective political strategy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Muhammad Awwal Goma described his leadership mandate as a responsibility entrusted to him by both the people and God. He reiterated the NNPP’s commitment to representing the poor, addressing corruption, tackling insecurity, improving education, and creating opportunities for the youth.
The swearing-in ceremony reflects the NNPP’s determination to strengthen its presence in Niger State, unify party members, and prepare for future elections by promoting effective leadership and citizen-focused governance.
