The founder of Madrasatul El-Kareem and Niger State Chairman of Huffazul Qur’an and Scholars, Gwani Sheikh Hussaini Abubakar Shakwata, has called on the Muslim community to turn to God and intensify prayers for solutions to the country’s insecurity and high cost of living.
The appeal was made during a special prayer session commemorating the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi and the annual Mauludun Nabiy (S.A.W), organized by students of Madrasatul El-Kareem at Sheikh Shakwata’s residence in Minna last Saturday.
Gwani Shakwata reflected on the lessons from the death of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, emphasizing the importance of continuing his legacy of religious education and good deeds. He urged the community to uphold the teachings of the Qur’an, Hadith, and ancestral Islamic traditions, noting that the path established by their predecessors is one of salvation and truth.
He also lamented the moral decay among youths, citing the rise of criminal activities such as kidnapping. Recounting a personal experience, Sheikh Shakwata revealed that he narrowly escaped an attack by young bandits during a condolence visit in Bauchi, stressing the urgent need for spiritual guidance and leadership accountability.
"It is the duty of scholars to overcome fear and pray for the guidance of our youth. Leaders must protect the lives and property of the people, for every leader is accountable to God for the trust placed in them," he said.
Sheikh Shakwata urged religious leaders across sects to unite and pray courageously for the nation, emphasising that while human efforts are essential, divine intervention is paramount in overcoming the country’s challenges.
Among the dignitaries who attended the Maulud and prayers was the elected Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government Area, Dr. Mustapha Jibrin Alheri, who pledged to improve the lives of youths and women through initiatives in education, health, and self-reliance. Dr. Alheri also called on scholars to set aside ideological differences and continue preaching unity and the path to eternal salvation.
"Without peace and mutual understanding, communities risk falling into corrupt ideologies. Our unity and guidance are essential for the moral and spiritual development of our people," he said.
