Rt. Hon. Kwamoti La’ori, Member of the House of Representatives representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency, has strongly condemned the ongoing violent conflicts in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, which have resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, and heightened tensions within the communities.
In a press statement signed on Monday, La’ori said:
"At a time when our nation is already suffering from the scourge of criminals, bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers, our people should not be subjected to yet another cycle of fear, grief, and instability."
He condemned the reported killing of unarmed women protesters by personnel of the Nigerian military in Lamurde LGA, describing the accounts relayed by his constituents as “distressing, heartbreaking, and utterly unacceptable.” La’ori emphasised that the killing of unarmed civilians is inhumane, unjustifiable, and a gross violation of fundamental human rights.
The lawmaker drew parallels with the tragic events of 2017 in Dong, Kodomti, Lawaru, Nzuruwe, and Shaforon communities, where civilians suffered similar abuses at the hands of security personnel without credible investigation, prosecution, or compensation. He expressed deep concern that communities are once again confronted with the same pattern of violations and impunity.
La’ori called for an immediate, transparent, and independent investigation into the extrajudicial killings in Lamurde, insisting that those found culpable must be held accountable according to the law. “Justice must not only be done—it must be seen to be done. Our democracy and our shared humanity demand no less,” he said.
He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, describing their pain as “our collective pain” and pledging his support during this difficult time.
The lawmaker appealed to residents of Lamurde and neighbouring communities to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate the situation. He also urged security agencies deployed in the area to exercise maximum restraint, uphold professionalism, and adhere strictly to rules of engagement in their duties to protect lives and restore order.
"We must all—community leaders, government, security agencies, and residents—work together to ensure that peace is restored swiftly and justice is served without delay," La’ori concluded.
