The Bauchi State Government has commenced the distribution of Christmas food and clothing items to 2,000 Christian orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) across the state.
The initiative, organised through the Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency (BASOVCA), was launched at the agency’s headquarters with stakeholders, representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and government officials in attendance.
Speaking at the ceremony yesterday, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Mrs. Lydia Sammani, commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for his sustained commitment to children's welfare.
She described the gesture as a reflection of the governor’s inclusive and compassionate leadership style.
The Executive Chairperson of BASOVCA, Hajiya Yelwa Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, also praised the governor and the First Lady for their continuous support, noting that the First Lady’s involvement has strengthened the agency’s outreach across all local government areas. She further appreciated the agency’s board members and staff for their dedication to the programme.
According to her, the distribution is aimed at ensuring that Christian OVCs celebrate Christmas with joy, dignity, and a sense of belonging.
The event concluded with prayers and goodwill messages from stakeholders, who lauded the initiative as a demonstration of unity and social responsibility. This was contained in a statement issued by Prince Bawa, the Information Officer of BASOVCA.
