Islamic System Is Achievable in Nigeria, Religion Will Prevail – Sheikh Zakzaky

The Leader of the Islamic movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H), has declared that establishing an Islamic system in Nigeria is achievable, stressing that it does not require everyone to embrace Islam or belong to the Shi’a sect.

Sheikh Zakzaky made the declaration on Saturday, October 17, 2026, while delivering the closing address at an international youth conference themed “Youth and the Future of the Islamic Struggle,” organised by Jaishu Shahid Ahmad Zakzaky (JASAZ) in Abuja.

Addressing participants, the Islamic Movement leader described youth as a critical stage of life that should be devoted to purposeful activities, religious commitment and meaningful contributions to society.

“Youth is not merely about age; it is about vigour and action,” he said.

Sheikh Zakzaky also challenged the notion that establishing the religion was unattainable because of limited resources or the fact that not everyone in society professes Islam.

He clarified that the objective of the Islamic struggle was not to compel everyone to become a Muslim or a Shi’a, but to establish a system guided by the principles and laws of Allah.

According to him, the establishment of religion entails upholding divine laws and ensuring that no legislation is enacted in contradiction to the laws of Allah.

“An Islamic system is one that does not contradict the laws of Allah,” he said.

To illustrate his argument, Sheikh Zakzaky cited the examples of the Sokoto Caliphate established under Sheikh Usman dan Fodio and the Islamic Republic of Iran. He noted that the presence of non-Muslims, including Jews, in Iran demonstrated that the establishment of an Islamic system did not necessarily require every citizen to be a Muslim.

The Leader further expressed confidence that attempts by opponents to suppress the Islamic struggle would ultimately fail, affirming his belief that victory would be attained by those committed to the struggle, God willing.

He urged the public to remain steadfast in supporting what they believe to be the truth rather than adopting a passive stance, emphasising the importance of active commitment to the establishment of an Islamic system.
