President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Super Falcons of Nigeria for winning the 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
The team, on Saturday, fought back from two goals down to defeat their host Morocco with 3-2 win in the final held at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
In a video call with the team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, the President hailed the team for their resounding victory, saying, the team has lifted the nation’s spirits.
“I am very, very proud of you. The entire nation is proud of you. You have lifted our spirita. You are a pride to your generation and we are all very, very happy.” he said, amid chorus of “thank you Mr. President” from the team players.
The president also lauded the coaches and the entire management of the Super Falcons for a job well done.
“You will be celebrated, and I congratulate all the coaches and the management of the team, including the ministers and the officials.”
He equally commended the the captain of the team, Rasheedat Ajibade, for emerging as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
“My very, very best regards to Rasheedat. Very good. I watched the penalty kick. That’s very courageous exercise. God bless you.
“Safe journey home, enjoy yourselves, and avoid injuries, God bless you.”
Responding on behalf of the team, Ajibade lauded the president for granting approval to the full payment of players’ allowances, expressing the team’s eagerness to present the WAFCON trophy to the president in Abuja.
