Kano Emirate Council has cancelled this year Eid-el-Kabir Durbar celebration.
Solacebase reports that the Council said the cancellation is due to the third wave of the COVID-19 and in compliance with the government directives.
Madakin Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nabahani announced this development on Monday to reporters.
Alhaji Yusuf Nabahani said the Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero directed him to inform all the district heads of the development.
Solacebase had reported that the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation had placed six states and the Federal Capital Territory on red alert, amid fears of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic following the confirmation of the Delta variant of the coronavirus.
The six states are Lagos, Oyo, Rivers, Kaduna, Kano, and Plateau.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation/Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, on Saturday.
